One of the key ingredients for a successful Islamic weekend school is strong parent involvement. When parents and teachers work together, students are more likely to
excel both academically and spiritually. But how can we effectively engage parents and
make them partners in our educational mission?
Here are some strategies to help bring parents on board:
1. Regular Communication: Keep parents informed with regular updates about what their children are learning, upcoming events, and ways they can support at home. A simple weekly email or text message can make a big difference in creating an open line of communication.
2. Invite Participation: Encourage parents to get involved in small, manageable ways. Whether it’s helping to organize events, reading the Qur’an with their child at home, or joining a school committee, parents are more likely to participate when they feel they can contribute in meaningful ways.
3. Host Parent-Teacher Meetings and Parent Classes: Arrange opportunities for parents to connect with teachers and parenting professionals. Parent-teacher meetings don’t have to be formal – they can be informal gatherings to discuss their child’s progress and share ideas for mutual support. Invite local professionals who know how to work and guide children of all ages.
4. Recognize and Appreciate Efforts: When parents engage, be sure to acknowledge and thank them. Whether it’s a personal note or public appreciation, showing gratitude can strengthen their commitment.
